Περιγραφή Προγράμματος: | The PSP focuses on major theoretical and methodological issues raised in the study of women and gender in anthropology and history and deals with the development of gender as an analytical tool for the better understanding of topics relating to as wide a range of subjects such as politics, education, economy, health, language, and art. The main goal is high level education for scholars and researchers on women’s and gender studies, enabling them to cope with the needs of contemporary multicultural societies and contribute to the promotion of the principle of equality on the basis of difference in all areas of social life. It is an interdisciplinary program, which combines social anthropology with history and examines their intricate relations with other fields of scientific inquiry and subject matters.
A further innovative aspect of the program has to do with the theoretical and methodological approaches which combine knowledge on gender issues from non western societies and cultures with the respective ongoing dialogue on the same issues at home. Therefore, the elements which compose the profile of the PSP are its interdisciplinary approach, its de facto intercultural orientation, as well as the emphasis placed on mainly qualitative research methods, and especially the ethnographic approach.
More specifically, the PSP aims at:
- Introducing students to the main contemporary discussions on gender in various scientific fields.
- Contributing to the comprehension of the gendered character of social relations and ideologies in areas such as politics, education, economy, health, language and art.
- Providing high level education on socially sensitive areas where the politics of equality and gender is formed.
- Connecting the knowledge acquired through the PSP with international developments in relevant disciplines, research fields, and specialties. |
