Τίτλος Προγράμματος: AEGEAN OBSERVATORY OF THE REFUGEE “CRISIS”
Περιγραφή Προγράμματος: This project aims to compose an ethnographic and archival record of the migration events that reached cataclysmic proportions in 2015-16 on the eastern Aegean island of Lesvos. This is obviously a time-sensitive project: the data that are there now will be lost if action is not taken to gather and collate it together. It is important to capture the key features that shaped local and international responses to the influx of refugees and to place those responses in their historical and structural context. Although the work cannot do more than to collate, organize and record what is there, without this work, it will be impossible for future researchers to carry out ongoing, in-depth anthropological analysis of the dramatic events of 2015-16 that could contribute considerably to understanding what happened, and what its implications are in social, political, and economic terms. It will be important to understand this, not only in terms of what it can say about European border processes, but also about the wider conditions of which these events were only one small part: they will help to trace the significant shifts in the dynamics of the relations between peoples and regions
