| Περιγραφή Προγράμματος: | The FME Physics group contributes to the operation and upgrade of the muon detector of the ATLAS experiment, one of the large experiments operating at CERN. The Muon Detection System is one of the basic detectors in any High Energy Physics experiment, like ATLAS. For example, the first confirmation of the Higgs particle detection used data where the Higgs decayed into muons. Due to the complexity of the system, a periodic meeting of all the concerned parties is necessary, so that the required monitoring and coordination is achieved. These meetings, with about 200 physically present and connected over internet participants are held 3 times per year on CERN site and once annualy at a collaborating university. The University of the Aegean FME Department Physics group was chosen to organize the 2016 meeting on Chios. |
