Περιγραφή Προγράμματος: | The overall objective of the proposed research is the implementation of novel nanomaterials for the
development of multifunctional nanocomposite cement based materials that besides their
mechanical performance enhancement can themselves be used as sensors to monitor the structural
health of structures. Contrary to traditional approaches that require the use of high-cost attached
sensors, this proposal is focused on developing a smart material that itself can be simultaneously
used as a construction material and a strain/damage sensor of structural components. To achieve
this goal, highly conductive innovative nanomaterials, such as nano-graphene platelets as well as
PVA fibers with incorporated carbon nanotubes, will be efficiently dispersed into the cementitious
matrix. The final product will provide critical information essential for public safety, e.g. real time
sensing on damage initiation and evolution in buildings, bridges, tunnels and other civil engineering
applications as well as in the restoration of Monuments of Greek Cultural Heritage. |
