Abstract: In this study, a computational model that aims at the automatic discrimination of different human music performers playing the same piece is presented. The proposed model is based on the note level and does not require any deep (e.g., structural or harmonic, etc.) analysis. A set of measures that attempts to capture both the style of the author and the style of the piece is introduced. The presented approach has been applied to a database of piano sonatas by W.A. Mozart performed by both a French and a Viennese pianist with very encouraging preliminary results.
