Abstract: Extensive research has been conducted on the computerization of the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and on the similarities, differences and specificities it presents compared with the computerization of the large enterprises. However the above research has mainly focused on the larger SMEs, while very little research work has been done on the computerization of the smaller SMEs, though they contribute significantly to the national product and to the total labour employment of most countries. This paper investigates the factors affecting the computerization of the Small Industrial Enterprises (SIEs). both the initial decision to introduce IS in the enterprise. and the subsequent decisions to extend the use of IS in the enterprise. For this purpose data from 427 SIEs were collected and processed, in order to determine statistically significant business and financial factors affecting the above computerization decisions. The resultS shed light on a variety of business and financial factors affecting the computerization of Small Industrial Enterprises.
